Concussion Information

August is back-to-practice month. These few pass-along tips can help reduce risk of sports-related concussions:

  • Wear protective equipment in practices

  • Never assume a helmet makes you invincible against head injury (especially if used like a battering ram)

  • A helmet protects against external injury, but remember, the brain floats in a fluid—it can be bruised or injured with strong impact

  • Having no symptoms following a blow to the head does not mean a concussion won’t appear 2-3 days later—if in doubt, sit out

  • Always seek medical care following a blow to the head, and follow a doctor’s instructions even if you feel fine

  • Never risk a second concussion by dismissing symptoms you think are minimal following a head blow

  • A physical is not required by our league but certainly is a good idea for your own benefit to verify no underlying conditions that may be aggravated by playing contact football.

  • Cleats must be plastic molded or plastic detachable (screw-in). Cleats must not be made of metal or have metal tips. Metal tipped cleats will create traction problems on the synthetic turf.

  • Face shields can be worn but must be clear.

  • Mouth-guards must be colored. Per league rules, clear mouth-guards are not allowed. If you need to purchase through your dentist, have them mold it with a colored material. The PGA will provide each player with a colored mouth-guard to start the season.

  • Gloves can be worn but must have the NFHS/NCAA approved tag on them.

  • We have teams for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.

Please note: A youth will be ineligible for competition in the Heart of the Valley Football League if they reach their fifteenth (15) birthday before August 1st of said season.

  • No.

  • Restrictions are unknown at this time. However, we will follow the guidance of our counsel (Kimberly High School Football Program).
